Covid: So a second wave has hit... How do you stay protected?

Lola had let her guard down.

Masks, face shields and hand sanitizers were everywhere in her space: her living room. Her car. On her desk at work. She had no intention of getting infected by the very new, very real, yet little understood Covid-19 virus, so she fortified herself, not only with personal protective equipment and sanitizers, but from the inside out as well. Immune boosters to the rescue. If somehow the virus slipped through her external defences, she would provide her body with all she needed to destroy the virus before infection could occur.

That was 10 months ago.

Things got considerably better. The dreadful lockdown was lifted and infection rates dropped. As did Lola's defences.

It was easier now to dash into the grocery store without a mask to make a quick purchase, or to forget to sanitize her hands after exchanging cash at the petrol station (was it entirely her fault? Even staff at stores stopped insisting on masks).

Then numbers, once again began to rise: infection rates as well as the the death toll. Once again: lockdown. At least in a number of places.

While she was ill once or twice in the past few months (she really thinks it was just malaria. She was feverish only for a few days, but that cleared up after a regimen of her trusty antimalarials, even though she didn't run any tests), she didn't think she of all people could have gotten infected with the Covid 19 virus, much less infect other people. Besides, she only let her guard down about a month or so ago when it seemed no one was wearing face masks anymore and people looked at her like she was paranoid for continuing to wear them.

You know the funny thing? She'll never know if she picked up the virus in the past few months. And if she had? We'll never know if she passed it on. The irony is some would get sick from the infection. Some would be asymptomatic.

The last thing we want to do is bore you. But we have to remind you: the global Covid-19 pandemic is not over!

It's worth saying again: the global Covid-19 pandemic is not over! It's still a very real threat. And did I mention that it's global?

Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, Oceania. Every continent has had its fair share.

You know, keeping safe in these trying times is all in the simple things:

Social distancing (please keep at least 6 feet away from the next person if you're in a public space), wearing a face mask (this protects you from infection via droplets, and reduces the chances of spreading it if you are infected and don't even know it), proper hand hygiene (via the use of hand sanitizers and /or hand washing) and consistently taking your immune boosters are really not a waste of time. Easily reinforce your white blood cells (your body's soldiers) with Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin D.

Studies have shown that using these supplements reduce the ability of the Covid 19 virus to attach to your cells and cause an infection, as well as reducing the severity of illness and likelihood for complications should infection occur.

It's really that simple. Mask up. Keep your hands clean. Keep your immunity in top condition.

It's a war out there. And to win, you must be deliberate in your fight. Don't let your guard down!
